Family of Harrogate woman who died 'without warning' launch scholarship in her memory The family of a 23-year-old Harrogate woman who passed away “without warning or reason” are aiming to establish a scholarship in her memory. Ellie Kempley died suddenly in September 2022 when her brother, James, found her unresponsive following a typical Friday night with her family. There were no signs, symptoms or warnings that she was unwell, according to her family. It was later revealed, following a postmortem, that Ellie died from SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome). Their aim is to support aspiring teachers just like Ellie. Ellie's brother, Ben Kempley, has set up a GoFundMe campaign in memory of his "beautiful sister” with the hope of raising £16,000. The total currently stands at £11,355. Ben said:

“Shock, sadness, disbelief, regret, and anger have defined the time since. “Grief is all the love you want to give, but now can’t - and Mum, Dad, James, Abi and I loved Ellie beyond imagination. “We have since been searching for ways to express that love. It is therefore with great excitement that we can announce our intention to establish a scholarship in her memory at the Maria Montessori Institute (MMI).”

“Ellie was incredibly passionate about children and hugely enjoyed, and thrived in, her first year of study at the Maria Montessori Institute and was destined to be a wonderful teacher. “It was always her dream to educate, inspire, and care for young people. By sponsoring teachers in her honour, we can do just that.”
From 2023-4 onwards, the Ellie Kempley Scholarship intends to cover the full tuition of a student, or students, through the course that Ellie was unable to finish. As part of their fundraising campaign, Ben and 32 other members of Ellie's family and friends are taking on Run For All's Yorkshire Marathon next month. The mix of seasoned runners and complete beginners will take on the run on Sunday 15th October. To contribute to the campaign, find the GoFundMe page here.
