Everything you need to know about the Autumn Flower Show

Sarah Richardson from Leafy Couture ahead of the Autumn Flower Show.

The Harrogate Autumn Flower Show returns to Newby Hall & Gardens today (Friday) for one of the most highly anticipated events in the gardening calendar.

Up to 30,000 visitors are expected to attend over the course of the show which ends on Sunday (15th September).

So ahead of the much-awaited event, here’s everything you need to know…

When and where?

The Harrogate Autumn Flower Show is being held at Newby Hall from today (Friday 13th September) until Sunday (15th September).

Show gates open at 9.30am and close at 5pm on each day.

Highlights

Grand Floral Pavilion:

Witness the final touches being made by specialist plant nurseries and societies as they prepare their stunning displays for judging.

From asters to zinnias - with over 5000 blooms to enjoy you won't find a bigger or better showcase of autumn flowers anywhere in the UK.

2024 NEHS Giant Vegetable Competition

With colossal cabbages, monumental marrows and bigger than big beetroots, visitors can look forward to another clash of the green giants as they battle for the top titles.

The results of the weigh-in will be presented at 9am on Friday in the Incredible Edible Pavilion.

National Onion Championship

Building on the excitement of last year’s competition, when a new world record for the largest onion was set, this thrilling competition will return with more 'eye-watering' specimens.

Will the record be beaten again this year? The giant onion weigh-in is at 12pm on Friday in the Incredible Edible Pavilion.

Food and Drink

A wide choice of catering options await visitors, from food served in the Outdoor Food Court to the menu available at Newby Hall’s Garden Restaurant.

There’s also a ‘Gardener’s Lunch’ being served on Saturday, supporting the charitable work of the North of England Horticultural Society.

Picnic and seating areas are also available around the Show.

Children

Children of all ages are welcome at the show.

A ticket for a 0-15 year old is free but needs to be booked with the ticket/s of the accompanying adult/s.

Making purchases

Looking to make some purchases whilst at the show? There will be an ATM available, but charges will be made for each withdrawal.

Organisers have also provided exhibitors, retailers and food outlets with the ability to accept card payments at the show.

Much of the event is staged in halls and marquee pavilions, meaning the show can go ahead whatever the weather.
