Martin House Children’s Hospice has praised its "incredible" ambassador Gareth Southgate following his "well-deserved" knighthood.
The former England manager and Harrogate resident was given a knighthood in the new year honours list following his success in charge of the Three Lions.
He became only the fourth ex-England manager to receive a knighthood after leading the team to consecutive European Championship runners-up finishes and the 2018 World Cup semi-finals.
And Martin House, which supports children with life-limiting illnesses and their families, has praised Gareth for his work and the difference he’s made to “countless lives.”
The 54-year-old has been an ambassador for Martin House for over 8 years.
A spokesperson for the hospice said:
“Gareth has been more than just an ambassador - he’s been a true champion of our mission.
“His values perfectly align with ours: commitment, compassion, and community.
“Whether giving his time to meet families, supporting our services, or being instrumental in launching and amplifying the Martin House Capital Appeal, Gareth’s dedication has made a massive difference.
“Thanks to his efforts, our fantastic partners and the incredible generosity of the public and everyone who’s supported us, we’re now just £1.5m away from reaching our goal!”
The spokesperson added:
“Thank you Gareth, for all that you do.
“Your knighthood is a reflection of the difference you’ve made, not only in sport but in countless lives.”
