Staff at a Harrogate elderly care charity are celebrating after a double win at the Great British Care Awards 2021. Harrogate Neighbours, who provide care services for the elderly, saw two staff members recognised at the ceremony in York last week. The Great British Care Awards aims to celebrate organisations and individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in the care sector. And both Head of Care Denise McEvoy and carer Nicola Cunningham received awards for their work during the pandemic. Denise was the first recipient of inaugural 'John Fisher Award for Contribution to Social Care' - an award dedicated to much-loved figure John Fisher who lost his battle with covid-19 last year. Mike Padgham, Chair of the Independent Care Group and award sponsor said:
"Denise has shown amazing courage and determination to overcome her own battles to keep helping and caring for others and supporting her colleagues. "She epitomises the amazing self-sacrifice that care workers have shown during the past 16-months in the face of his cruel and indiscriminate pandemic."Nicola Cunningham, who has worked in the care sector for 13 years, was awarded the ;Home Care Co-Ordinator Award' - an award that recognises an individual who has demonstrated vision in motivating and supporting staff, whilst ensuring the client remains at the heart of the service. Speaking on behalf of the award winners, Head of Care at Harrogate Neighbours, Denise McEvoy said:
"I was blown away by the very kind words spoken about me. I am overwhelmed to have received this award in memory of such a well-respected and truly magnificent man.
