Ex-Harrogate Town footballer to host soccer skills day for kids

Ex-Harrogate Town footballer Brendan Kiernan is teaming up with Harrogate Town Community Foundation to host a soccer skills day for kids. 'BK Soccer School' is set to take place on Friday 4th June at Killinghall Moor Country Park in Harrogate. And the school, open to boys and girls aged 9-16, will have a strong focus on mental health and resilience with prizes and giveaways to those who take part. The day will run from 10am-6pm and will also involve a 5-a-side match, with five professional footballers pitted against five ex-professionals. https://twitter.com/kiernan_brendan/status/1395311631186411525?s=24   Brendan Kiernan, who has been heavily involved in Town's Community Foundation in recent years, left the club last week after making 30 league appearances this season. The forward said an emotional farewell via Twitter:

"Massive thanks to Harrogate Town. Solid support from the fans and a squad of lads who I’ve shared some special moments with.

"Football League promotion, FA Trophy winners and scoring the clubs first EFL hat-trick -it’s been an absolute pleasure."

Counselling service Brendan has also announced he is set to launch a counselling and mentoring service to help young footballers and athletes. Speaking about the new service and his focus on helping young athletes tackle mental health issues, Brendan said:
"The aim of my services long term is to create safe spaces for young people tackling mental health challenges, helping with building emotional intelligence and to walk with them as they improve self-care."
