Homes now starting to get gas restored

Northern Gas Works are now starting to restore homes in the Harrogate area with there gas supply. Here is the latest update from Northern Gas Works: Gas supplies to around 3,000 customers in Harrogate will start being restored today after repairs to a large gas pipe were completed overnight. People in the HG1, HG2, HG3 and HG4 postcodes were affected by supply problems on Friday after a gas escape on Ripon Road. The escape was stopped the same day, but engineers from Northern Gas Networks have been working round the clock to repair the pipe, which was complicated by its large diameter and depth. The gas company has been providing people affected with advice, hot food and alternative heating and cooking equipment from a support centre it established in Jennyfield Styan Community Centre in Gateley Drive. Local volunteers also assisted by helping deliver letters to residents. Director of Customer Operations, John Richardson said engineers had been drafted in from across the north of England to begin the mammoth effort of restoring people’s gas supplies one-by-one. “It can be a long process to visit each individual property to safely switch on everyone’s gas but we are helping people get back to normal more quickly by guiding them through the process of doing it themselves, and providing on site support.  Work on restoring gas supplies will start this morning and we will be visiting every house to until all the supplies are back to normal.” The latest updates are available at www.northerngasnetworks.co.uk and on Twitter @NGNgas and Facebook Facebook.com/northerngasnetwork
